The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program

Eligibility: Citizens of the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the U.K. pursuing graduate studies in an array of STEM disciplines, including physics. Applicants must be willing to accept post-graduate employment with the Department of Defense and may be required to obtain a security clearance.

Description: SMART has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing STEM disciplines. The program aims to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at DoD laboratories and primarily targets "hand-on-the-bench" researchers and engineers. Recipients of this fellowship receive full tuition and fees, a stipend at a rate of $25,000 - $38,000, summer research internships and other benefits.
