My research centers on the search for new physics at high energies, using data from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Currently I am focused on a search for a new class of particles called "vector-like quarks" whose existence could explain some of the odd features of our current theories of fundamental particle physics. In the coming years we will either exclude the existence of these particles up to masses of over 1 TeV, or discover their existence and undertake a program of detailed measurements of their properties. I am also engaged in developing improvements to the high-level trigger for the upcoming Run II of the LHC, particularly in addressing how the jet trigger can be made more robust against the effects of additional proton-proton collisions at the high accelerator intensities expected.
