Liam Frank, a current Physics Ph.D. student, is named U of A Student-Athlete of the Month for his participation in the UA water polo club team. Liam played water polo in high school but took a break during his undergraduate studies. He joined the UA water polo club team in Fall 2022, which has provided him with a great diversion from schoolwork and research. Liam commented on the award, "Now, having been named Student Athlete of the Month, I feel incredibly grateful. I see it as a culmination of my decision to reenter the sport and of the effort I've dedicated to the sport. At first I was hesitant to join the team because of the difficulty it may pose to the completion of my academic duties. But the fun I've had and the people I've met have more than made up for the busyness it's added to my life. I encourage everyone to make some time for the things that make you happy, especially when you feel overwhelmed with school or work; these passions are what makes life worth living!"

Liam's research, under the guidance of Dr. Jason Jones, investigates applications of passively mode-locked Vertical External Cavity Semiconductor Lasers (VECSELs) to dual-comb spectroscopy.
