Spring 2021 Webinar Series: Advanced EHT Data Analysis, Session 1: Time Domain Methods I

SESSION OVERVIEW:

This webinar will discuss descriptions of astrophysical sources exhibiting incoherent variability in their light curves, specifically from the perspective of "compact object” sources being fueled by accretion processes. The facilitator will discuss differences between coherent and incoherent signals (e.g., the example of LIGO gravitational wave sources vs. pulsars vs. stochastic variability in compact object systems), characterizing astrophysical variability via Fourier transform techniques, and situations where Fourier techniques are inadequate to describe observed variability as well as other techniques that might provide more insight.

Please join for this first session in the five-part series.
