Announcing Department of Physics New Faculty Member Prof. Andrew Steinmetz
The Department of Physics is pleased to announce that recent UA graduate Dr. Andrew James Steinmetz has joined our department as our newest UA faculty member. He is a Global Professor for our applied physics program at the Arizona College of Technology (ACT), Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT) in Tianjin, China.
Andrew earned his doctoral degree from the University of Arizona, and completed his undergraduate work here as well with B.S. in both Physics and Chemical engineering. Andrew’s research is to explore spin and magnetic moments in relativistic mechanics from both a quantum and classical perspective. He is especially interested in the role of anomalous moments in fundamental particles. Selected publications of his work can be found at https://w3.physics.arizona.edu/person/andrew-steinmetz. For his teaching interests, he is focused on developing and implementing classroom curriculum which emphasizes collaboration between students in small groups to tackle physics concepts and topics.
Andrew was born in New Jersey and moved to Arizona in 2001. He is an avid motorcyclist both on and off-road. He regularly stargazes and photographs the night sky including galaxies, nebula, and the solar system. He makes electronic music with friends using modular synthesizers.
