Kyle Rine Won the CoSSAC Star Award
Today
Congratulations to our Laboratory Coordinator Kyle Rine, who won the CoSSAC (College of Science Staff Advisory Council) Star Award! This is the award to recognize the staff’s hard work and dedication, and their contribution to the department.
Kyle joined the department in 2021. His work is essential for the smooth running of the department. With the extremely short staffing of our department, Kyle’s work has expanded in many different areas, and he has done a superb job in each direction. In charge of the physics demonstration shop, Kyle develops, maintains, builds, repairs, and acquires physics classroom demonstrations. In addition, he provides suggestions for improvement to existing experiments and the construction of new experiments. He also builds custom demonstrations, thanks to his solid technical capabilities and creativity. Recently, Kyle also volunteered to support the physics advanced lab, helping with maintenance and performance of laboratory equipment and providing training and instructional support to students.
Kyle is very engaged in the physics department outreach activities. After the COVID pause, Kyle single-handedly organized the whole event last year and brought back this popular physics department tradition back (https://w3.physics.arizona.edu/news/physics-phun-night-2023). At the 2024 Tucson Book Festival, he led the physics activity booth, which was a tremendously popular addition to this year’s Science City exhibits. He also plays an essential role in the outreach class that Physics restarted at Flandrau Science Center. Kyle has such an enthusiasm in outreach that he not only does it himself, but also encourages participation in outreach at every level in the department; undergraduate; graduate, and faculty, by providing more opportunities for outreach participation.
Earlier this year, Kyle took on a new job responsibility, the physics department web master. He maintains, updates, and creates content for the department website and social media. He oversees the physics department science communication.
Kyle is a very valuable member of the department. Let’s give a big applause to Kyle's contributions to the department.
