UA Physics Alumni Britney Schmidt Wins Blavatnik Award!
Monday
Congratulations to Dr. Britney Schmidt for being named a laureate of the Blavatnik National Awards, which is one of the nation's largest and most competitive awards for early career scientists.
Dr. Britney Schmidt is an Associate Professor of Astronomy and Earth & Atmospheric Science at Cornell University. Her work observing Earth's ice shelves, glaciers, and the oceans beneath them broadens our understanding of the effects of a changing climate on Earth's Polar regions. She has completed eight scientific field campaigns in Antarctica and two in the Arctic. Her research also focuses on ice-ocean processes on other planetary bodies, including Jupiter's moon Europa. Dr. Schmidt and her team are involved in the development of specialized robotic tools, instruments, and the use of spacecraft to study planets.
