Abstract: Introductory and advanced textbooks use the slowly charging capacitor as a segue to the concept of displacement current. However, in their rush to make that transition some very interesting physics is left out. Additionally, they also frequently state things which are either simply incorrect or at least misleading. In this talk, we will carefully investigate the slowly charging capacitor and it is likely you will be surprised by some of the results.
