Physics Department Welcomes New Faculty Member, Ian Lim
We are thrilled to announce that Ian Lim (they/them) has joined the University of Arizona Department of Physics as an Assistant Professor of Practice.
Ian earned their Ph.D. in Physics (2025) from the University of California, Davis, specializing in quantum information theory. Their research explores entanglement in many-body systems and quantum field theory, as well as connections between quantum information, black holes, and spacetime. Ian’s work has been published in leading journals, including Physical Review Letters.
Beyond research, Ian is passionate about active learning, inclusive pedagogy, and innovative approaches to assessment.
“As a graduate student, I led my department's graduate student organization and first-year peer mentorship program, as well as supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion and accessibility for disabled students as a Graduate Leader for APS CU*iP and a student representative in the UC Davis Graduate Student Association. When it comes to my teaching, I envision a classroom where learning and growth are valued over points and grades, where everyone feels empowered to engage and show up authentically, and where every student finds something new to love about physics”.
Outside of physics, Ian enjoys swing dancing, sewing, tabletop games, musical theatre, cooking, reading queer science fiction/fantasy, and competitive trivia.
Please join us in giving Ian a warm welcome to our department!
