The 2025 Staff and Faculty Awards were given out at the UA Physics graduation festivities. These awards honor those who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to enriching the educational experience for students and/or providing exceptional service for the department. Join us as we highlight the remarkable achievements of this year's winners.
Undergraduate Teaching Award (Service Course)
Prof. Brian LeRoy for his exceptional contribution to transforming the Introductory Mechanics class into a studio-style teaching and teaching the pilot course 110 in Fall 2025.
Undergraduate Teaching Award (Major Course)
Prof. Sumit Mazumdar for his teaching of PHYS263H (Honors Introductory Relativity and Quantum Physics). He is a thorough and engaging instructor who cares a great deal about the students' success and comprehension of the material.
Graduate Teaching Award
Prof. Charles Stafford, for teaching the graduate core course, Quantum Mechanics.
Service Award
Prof. Stefan Meinel, for leading the department communication committee in updating the physics website and setting up the physics social media. He also contributed significantly to the two recent faculty searches in the department.
Recognition for Outstanding Outreach
Kyle Rine for his continuous effort in leading the department's outreach activities, including physics PHUN night and Science City in Tucson Book Festival, as well as supporting student groups in their outreach efforts.
Outstanding Staff Award
Amy Bai for her excellent work in the Physics Business Office, which supports the smooth running of the department's day-to-day operations.
