The UA KEYS Research internship program supports high school students from around Arizona to gain experience as interns in research groups over the summer.  During the first week in the program, students are taught the necessary skills to be successful in a lab.  Then for six weeks, they work in a UA research lab.  Five of Physics Department faculty, Drs. Golubev, Hassan, Kong, LeRoy and Schaibley, hosted brilliant high school students this summer:

Dr. Nikolay Golubev hosted Kristy Hudgins from Tanque Verde High School
Dr. Mohammad Hassan hosted Annika Koessler from Tanque Verde High School
Dr. Tai Kong hosted Makeen Shafer from Basis Tucson North
Dr. Brian LeRoy hosted Logan Curley from Catalina Foothills High School
Dr. John Schailby hosted Cyan Gupta from Basis Tucson North

Last Friday was the KEYS showcase poster session, during which the students presented their work to all 60 KEYS students, faculty mentors, and family. All of the students created engaging and accessible posters. They were complimented on how well they explained their work, especially since most of the other students in the program are biology focused. Hopefully, some of them will be our physics majors in the future!

Thank you and congratulations to Kristy, Annika, Makeen, Logan, and Cyan for all of their hard work and accomplishments this summer.

Support for the KEYS students comes from the Thomas R Brown Foundation.
